Kay Towns Art - painting/collage/mixed media
WELCOME to a world derived from my imagination

Originally from the Midwest  I've been a resident of New York since 1981. The focus of my work is thus informed from impressions both past and present. The artwork I create relays impressions which have impacted me, in an eclectic sense, through imagination, environment and personal experiences both seen and felt.

Using acrylic paint and a variety of other materials, I not only paint, but sculpt my images. This inspiration is derived from my everyday universe, the likes of a shoe smudge on a subway car door or a beautifully battered cigar box (now memorial). Guided by training and a trusted instinct and an impulsive use of found materials my pieces have been known to incubate for weeks or months or sometimes years before reaching completion. Seldom do I elaborate on drafts of my work.

My art training has been a mixture of self-instruction, early classes at the Feminist Art Institute (NYFAI) and the School of Visual Arts where I received a BFA. I've exhibited locally at Rutgers University, John Jay college, West Side Arts Coalition, Ceres Gallery, Helio Gallery, Nexus Gallery, Artist's Space, Westbeth Gallery, Williamsburgh Art and Historical Center, Art House and MH Gallery.
